{Laura + Brian} Portland, OR Engagement Photo Session

March 20th, 2014 : Engagements

I met {Laura + Brian} out at the McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse & Imbrie Hall in Hillsboro just west of Portland after driving the prerequisite 3 hours from Bend while it rained the entire time.  Thinking that we might be doing much of their engagement session inside, just as I pulled into this eclectic area that only the McMenamin brothers can create so well, it stopped raining and it was game time!  Usually when I meet a new couple for the first time at their engagement session I want to sit and chat a while to give them a little pep talk so to speak but in this case we all thought it best to not chance the monsoon that could be right around the corner.  So off we went to this sweet octagonal barn on the property to start and I was so impressed how {Laura + Brian} immediately just started joking with each other with this relaxed air to them and I knew the session would not only be fun but easy to get super natural and emotional images of the two of them.  At some point our chatting came around to their winery around Grants Pass, (yes, these two make wine-how cool is that!), and we see this shed and the talk goes to, “hey, I wonder if there’s anything cool in there?”.  So we go in and it turns out there’s this sweet 1800′s French copper distillery where their making at the moment small batches of brandy, gin and other sweets to tickle your palette.  The master of this contraption is a fella by the name of Bart and not only did he let us photograph around the distillery, he even gave us a history lesson of the distillery and how it’s all done – Bart, your awesome!   I only have one thing to say to you all out at McMenamins Roadhouse, Thank You for making {Laura + Brian}’s engagement session super memorable!  {Laura + Brian}, we can’t wait to see you guys again for your wedding at Langdon Farms!

{Brooke + Patrick} Seattle, WA Engagement Photo Session

February 6th, 2014 : Engagements

Brooke + Patrick are one solid couple!  When it’s their engagement photo session in Seattle, WA and it’s raining sideways you tend to see how well couples work together, (to keep warm after their coats have been off for a while in 35F weather!!).  There’s been this running joke between Wendy and I of how we have this seriously laughable good weather karma when we have photo sessions coming up.  We’ll be driving somewhere and it’ll be pouring rain but when we get to the location the skies open up and everything is beautiful.  Well……that didn’t necessarily happen to Brooke + Patrick but I will say that not only did we capture this really cool couple together, (without floating away), we were stoked to get some really unique images of the two of them at the Fremont Troll, (I love how the troll has the Seahawk’s 12 painted on his face!) and Fremont Bridge plus the Olympic Sculpture Park.  You guys were awesome today and can’t wait to see you again at your wedding!!

{Jessica + Sean} Oregon Engagement Photo Session

December 23rd, 2013 : Engagements

It’s funny how small and how large our little town of Bend, Oregon is.  Sean and I never really met each other but we we’re on the same cycling team in our town, (he raced in a way faster class so it’s not too surprising) but it was his sister who found us for their wedding photography!  Jessica and Sean really wanted to get some pictures in the snow, (and Wendy and I are always game for anything!!) so we went up to Mt Bachelor and wow was that a change of weather!  Those photo’s of Jessica and Sean on the chairlift we’re crazy to capture as it was blowing 30+ and so cold it took your breath away.  During the photography of images further down the mountain next to the Bachelor sign I did something I’ve never done before…..I proceeded to backup, catch my boot on a Manzanita bush and do a complete backwards summer salt while holding my camera in one hand and a bag of lenses over my shoulder.  It felt fairly graceful, (probably helped that we had about 1.5 feet of snow for padding) and surprisingly nothing got broke!  Anyway, we all had a fantastic time running around the Bend area in search of fun and uniquely creative locations that we hope you’ll enjoy!

{Jill + Nathan} Love Portrait Session in Downtown Raleigh, NC

December 16th, 2013 : Engagements

A sister couldn’t be more excited and thrilled to see her sister thrive in love.  It’s such a joy to witness {Jill + Nathan’s} transformation from old friends (his mom and our mom go WAY back, in fact they played in the sandbox together as babies!) to the fiery romance of today!  These two are well matched and both are excited for all the new things to come this year including a move for Jill from San Francisco back home to Raleigh, NC.  It was an honor and privilege to be asked to do a portrait love session recently with them to document this very special time.  Nathan is a family documentary photographer (informally but he’s never without his camera), so it was really fun to get him in FRONT of the camera! We went into downtown Raleigh to find some great color and texture and ended up at the city market and the capital building to capture to the pillars known in the south and throughout North Carolina architecture.

{Jill + Nathan}…we are just so dang excited and can’t wait to celebrate with you throughout your relationship all those special moments!  LOTS OF LOVE!

All the best,
B + W

{Amanda + Eric} Portland, Oregon Engagement Photo Session

December 13th, 2013 : Engagements
Searching for the most unique angles and interesting architecture in Portland, Oregon is always fun with stylish couples like {Amanda + Eric}.  We avoided the rain and in this case, the traffic on the Hawthorn Bridge.  It’s always nice when our clients are watching out for us… “5 seconds till you need to get out of the way of oncoming traffic!”  Seriously though, this was a super fun shoot as we began at the swanky Doug Fir Lounge where they had these cool metal beaded curtains and from there we moved on to the Nines Hotel where there are way too many cool angles and props to use.  I’ve wanted to get some images in their secret hotel pool (not water) room and am stoked at the results!
Cheers!

{Annie + Tony} Winery Love Session in Napa Valley, Ca

November 4th, 2013 : Engagements

From the fabulous hotel of Bardessono to the wineries of Groth, Swanson’s and Cade, this fabulous love session was a touring adventure of some of the best of the best of Napa, Ca.  We would normally call it an engagement session but these two have been connected at the hip and married for almost a decade!  In order to celebrate their upcoming vow renewal celebrations in Portland, Or next summer, we went down to one of their favorite places, Yountville and Napa, Ca to catch some candids of them doing what they love most – enjoying life and fabulous wine!

We all enjoyed a packed day of visiting the variety of styles that the area presents from the mission style of Groth, to the whimsy of Swanson’s and the modern, almost Asian lines of Cade way above the valley.  It was perfect weather and a joy to get to know these two better outside of their diverse, traveling life (they are on their way to the South Pacific tomorrow!).  Nothing but love for these clients turned friends!  We can wait to celebrate with you and document your vow renewal together next year for your 10 year anniversary.  The love and support, patience and joy between you both is obvious and worth celebrating till the last drop.  You are both very, very special people with enormous generosity for the people around you – it’s inspiring.

Big hugs,

B + W
