The Sweet Harlots & Laurel Brauns Promo Images And Band Posters

March 13th, 2009 : Extras

Wendy and I had a great time shooting some promotional images with The Sweet Harlots for their upcoming show at McMenamins on St Patrick’s Day.  We also recorded some video footage with the intention of creating a music vid while the band recorded a couple tracks for a CD.  Here are the three posters that were designed by amazing artist Esther Kang of Alpie Design.  If your in town, don’t forget to come out to watch and listen to the Sweet Harlots on March 17th!  Cheers-

Live Music In Bend, Oregon From "The Strain"

February 13th, 2009 : Extras

While waiting for the wedding season to pick up I seem to get photographic inspiration in the most interesting places.  My friend Mark calls me up and tells me his band “The Strain” is playing at a local spot called “Players” in town.  Not knowing that he was even in a band let alone what he played (he’s the lead singer and an excellent photographer in his own right), I needed to see this first hand and now you all can check it out!  From what I heard, The Strain plays a mix of hard rock verging on metal/punk tones and guitar riffs.

Laurel Brauns And Her Band the Sweet Harlots

January 6th, 2009 : Extras

Here are some images from a shoot I did last Saturday for a Bend, Oregon band called the Sweet Harlots.  We had a lot of fun conceptualizing on a look they could use for promotion and even though it was fairly cold out, the energy was flowing.  If your in Bend this January the 28th come check them out at McMenamins Old St. Francis School in the Father Luke’s room from 7 – 10 p.m.  Hey, it’s free!

Here’s what Chris Dahlen of Pitchforkmedia.com and Paste Magazine had to say about the Sweet Harlots most recent album, “Laurel Brauns can do the siren singer-songwriter thing, casting her sterling voice into songs about wide skies and maze-like hearts. She brings to bear all of her Celtic and indie influences on her haunting new album where cellos and dark finger-picked acoustic guitar all but surround you with the ghosts of the by-gone characters the songs speak of.”

Bela Fleck & the Flecktones at the Tower Theatre-Bend, Oregon

November 21st, 2008 : Extra

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to shoot photos of the Tower Theatre/Bela Fleck concert to be used on the Tower Theatre’s website. Bela is regarded as one of the premiere banjo players in the world and that was apparent with a sold out crowd. I had a fun time trying new angles on a building that has seen many photos. I brought my monopod rather than a ladder and put my camera on timer mode to allow time to stick my camera up in the air. Not always the most accurate but can yield some cool results. I was also able to shoot from behind the stage as well and that was fun in and of itself. For this I love my 50mm 1.4 as it’s indispensable in low-light situations where flash is out of the question. Somehow, Nikon needs to make a 16mm 1.4 and I’ll be very grateful. Thanks to Bela Fleck and their tour manager for allowing me to capture the show.
