Wedding Hanger Giveaway and #3 Top Tip For Wedding Planning
When Travis emailed me about a giveaway they were offering, I jumped at the opportunity because this is one of our major top 5 tips for photo planning for your wedding. When we are scheduling your pre-consult a month before your wedding, we send out an email with top tips to aid in us getting fabulous images. One of those items is to have a classy hangar on hand for us to photograph your dress. We went years taking stunning images of your most beautiful dress…on a plastic hangar – yuck! Finally, we said enough and educated our clients on the benefits of this small little detail.
Travis’s company, www.weddinghangershop.com, offers custom hangers in a variety of colors (cherry wood, maple, white, black, and options for text – bride, maid of honor, etc). You can easily have the hanger say, ‘bride’ or even add your new name as our last clients did, ‘Mrs. Broussard.’
Did I mention they are offering a GIVEAWAY for a free hanger of your choice?
We’ll make it easy on you to enter:
1) Leave a comment below with your name, email and why you want one (either for yourself or a friend, bridesmaid, etc)
2) Like our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/byronroephotography
3) The winner will be chosen on Monday, October 15 at 12 NOON via our blog.
Feel free to share with your friends!
Cheers,

{Artist Series} by Byron Roe Photography: Before + After Texture Examples
Continually working on growing our art has allowed us to begin creating these special pieces we are excited to now call our {Artist Series}. We’ve had a bunch of questions and cheers for our new {Artist Series} images and couldn’t be happier with the response! {Artist Series} images are a handful (3 -10) selected images of our favorites from your engagement session or wedding day. These portraits are a great addition to the wall art in your home and are perfect for canvas and metallic prints. These {artist series} photographs are only available as 11 x 14 images or larger as they’re meant to stand out individually and have select textures to represent the art’s uniqueness. Each image is retouched individually and customized in photograph editing software.
To show you what we’re up to, below are some before/after images. Enjoy!
All the best,
B + W

Portland Gallery Showcase at Champagne Events/Metallic Wall Art Prints
We were recently invited to showcase our work at the grand opening of the new space for Champagne Wedding & Event Coordination in the Pearl, downtown Portland, Oregon. They have this cute, modern new client meeting space and needed some art work to decorate their walls. The work wall and showcase will include a list of invited vendors and rotate on a monthly basis. Also, we chose to highlight our new metallic wall art prints mounted on 1 1/2″ black standouts. The pieces displayed range from 10 x 20, 20 x 20, 16 x 24 and 20 x 30.
Congratulations to Champagne! And if you’re up in Portland for the month of February and want to check out the gallery or their new space, their address is: 1323 Northwest 16th Avenue, Suite 1002 (click on link for Google Maps).
Cheers,

The Benefits of a Wedding Event Coordinator From A Photographer’s Perspective
We always breath easy when a wedding couple has chosen to hire an event coordinator. We kinda jump up and down and do a happy dance. Why you ask? Because coordinators rock, they keep the timeline flow fabulously and the hiccups to a minimum (and invisible to the bride). In essence, they make our jobs easier - it’s like knowing someone’s got your back.
Recently, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Mint Event Coordination & Design, and the two lovely ladies, Kerry and Sara, to discuss the flow of photography inside of working with an event coordinator. Below, they shed great insight to how their services dovetail into making fabulous pictures (among much more).
“Having a talented photographer is one of the best investments a bride can make in capturing the details and emotion of the day. As a client, the last thing you want to do is pull the photographer’s focus away from behind the lens to manage the event timeline. Ideally, you want the professionals that you hire to be able to put full attention into their area of expertise. You’ll be thrilled with the results!” – Kerry and Sara
Some of the benefits include:
- Helping design details to encapsulate your story into the wedding day
(that always creates great pictures and tells your story!) - Making sure all the vendors know the timeline/itinerary for the day
(so we can take photos of details when we need to and it doesn’t overlap with other major wedding day events!) - Being the main point of contact for vendors, so the bride can focus on the moment
(if there’s a concern…let’s say Aunt Jane is missing…we have our on-site problem solver!) - Help gather family members for the formal portraits
(“Kerry, where’s Aunt Jane?” – this helps the photography flow more efficiently and quickly!) - If the ceremony and reception locations are the same, coordinators facilitate a FAST flip
(this helps us photograph the reception atmosphere, experience and details prior to everyone being in the room and ON TIME!) - Giving us insider information on the timing of the food to the completion of the portraits
(if the kitchen is running early, late, on-time and we need to adjust the timeline for any reason) - Help couples on budgeting for the big picture and identify important items for their day
(which helps us create initial dialogue with our couples on what’s important and work within their budget)
Event Coordinators =
- Less Stress To Planning and Day Of
- Ability To Be In The Moment
- Secure A Great Client Experience
- Ensure Beautiful Details Are Showcased
- Timeline Reliability
Mint Event Coordination & Design offers several different packages; whether it’s Full Service and all the design/decor is handled, or Day Of, which ensures timeline and vendor seamlessness, you can’t go wrong.
Kerry, Sara – thank you for all that you do!
Plan ON!

It’s YOUR Wedding, So Remember the Details!
Personal Details are the most important visual aspect to your wedding! This means that if your thinking of not including something based on whether others have ever done it in the past……well, that’s a lost opportunity bordering on travesties way beyond a broken nail or say, a run in your extra special nylons.
Details Rock
At some point we have to admit to ourselves that those silly things that shout, “this is who I am and who we are and…..we’re proud of it”, really speak of who we are deep down. Cowboy boots under a dress, favorite football team pins on your garter belt, home brewed beer and label given to your guests as thank you’s, etc, etc. Don’t forget all the interests that brought you and your mate together and showcase them in a way that will add to the harmony of your day.
Balance Grasshopper
I think I’m going to be bordering on sounding like Martha Stewart here but…..remember though, too much of anything will look disjointed. Your goal is to fit everything together in a way that enhances the entire look as a whole, (thus enhancing the images we take of your wedding). One really wild idea might take too much focus away from other really cool details. Remember grasshopper, it’s all about balance! Like ice cream toppings, these are the details that will help create personalized wedding photographs that will make your wedding unique. It IS your wedding right?
Why Movement Works
How and where do I start you might ask? My first suggestion to brides and grooms is the need to push themselves outside the comfort box of jumping on the new wedding fad of the month band wagon. Seems like no one throws rice these days but if you’ve always pictured coming out of the chapel to a big shower or rice, in the words of Ben Stiller….”DO IT”. Your going to be more cutting edge anyways if no one else is doing it anymore, right? Not having a veil is in……well go get the longest veil you can find and be stoked at how just this one detail can enhance your photographs more than you ever thought possible! Play with it, wrap yourself and your guy in it, endless fun that will only create more playful moments for your photographer to capture. Moments created by movement is the key to getting many of our great images and I for one am a huge advocate of getting our couples to just….well, play!
Isn’t that what we all want in the end anyways? Images that will show our style, coolness, BEAUTY?
Cool…so the takeaway here is: Rock The Details!
Happy wedding planning,
B + W
Personalize and show your style. Rockin’ the boots!!
The Seahawks would be so proud.
This couple used images from the engagement photo shoot and designed their own label to go along with the home brewed beer they created for all their guests.
Repeat after me…..Veils Rock!
Engagement and Wedding Album Samples; Bend, Oregon Photographers
We have some new Pictage album samples to showcase and offer our clients! These books are a great way to preserve your wedding story, for a 25th anniversary, for your grandchildren, for each other. Albums can be used in ways you might not even thought of. We have couples get a small 8×8 album of their engagement images for the wedding guest book or get a large 12×12 album with their collection and then add on duplicate 8×8 parent albums as a wonderful surprise for their parents – there are tons of options to displaying your wedding, within an album. It’s the best way to share with future friends and family, in a magazine-like layout, the details and flow of your special day.
The albums have a hard cover photo with premium leather spine and back cover. They are “layflat” design without a gutter and therefore large spreads look amazing! They come in both matte or glossy premium, color perfect prints on thick high-quality stock. Prices range from $300 to $1,000 depending on the size of book and number of pages. Take a peek and see for yourself!
Cheers!
