Congratulations to Runner Max King; Montrail and Mountain Hardware Catalog Covers

June 17th, 2010 : Extra, Extras, Portraits

Congratulations goes out to local Bendite and supreme runner, Max King.  To add to his many accomplishments, last weekend at the annual Footzone Dirty Half, Max won the fastest time making him the 2010 USA Half Marathon Trail Champion.

Max is passionate about running (it’s obvious) and about teaching running but he’s also one of those wonderful athletes that balances his supreme athleticism with a full-time career (he’s a chemical engineer) and family (he’s got an 8 month old!).  Above all, Max is an all-around fun guy, easy to get along with always cool, calm and collected with a smile.  Over the last few months we’ve had the opportunity to spend some quality time shooting Max for various marketing projects for some of his big sponsors: Montrail and Mountain Hardware.  Below are some of our favorites from the last few shoots out at Smith Rocks State Park and Sisters, OR and as we just found out, the covers of the new 2011 Montrail catalog and Mountain Hardware Excel Run.

Ohh la la :)

This was the ‘hydration’ shot :)   The view was spectacular though…

Max stretching before the photo shoot run :)   Very difficult, max effort.  he he…

One of our favs; Max has a fantastic stride, focus and dedication to his sport.

Max’s ‘All-American’ smile and portrait.

This is one of Wendy’s favs – great lighting and intensity.

Max is quite fearless, when we say jump – he jumps…across a chasm!

This was honored by making the cover of Mountain Hardware’s 2011 Excel Run Spring Catalog. :)

The new Montrail’s 2011 catalog cover shot :)

Another hydration/hero shot of Max.

One of the many classic, casual running shots out at Smith Rocks.

Max showing off ‘parkor’ style…goofing off really.  Just happy he didn’t get hurt :)   Oh, and he’s several feet off the ground here.

Another hero shot – that dude is strong.

Jumping over the 4 feet wide chasm.  Every time he landed, Wendy breathed a sigh of relief.

A Montrail shoe focused shot, Byron’s fav :)

First Friday Showcase and Cyclocross Nationals in Bend, Oregon

December 5th, 2009 : Extras, Personal

As some of you know, we live in Bend, Oregon because the outdoors are a fingertip away.  In fact, our house is within a 5 minute bike path to the head of Phil’s trail, the mountain biking haven.  We ski, we climb, we bike.  Cyclocross in recent years, a unique segment of the sport that is biking, has flourished in this area (especially Portland, Or) and includes dirt, dust, mud, snow, stairs, barriers, hills….etc.  It’s the dirty kind of biking.  My biking/racing habits have been overcome by photography recently; however, we still participate in the biking community of Bend, Oregon.

Footzone was the host of this month’s First Friday Art Walk in downtown Bend where we showcased black and white photos of recent years local Cyclocross madness. Combined with next week’s ‘Cross Culture art + bike’ showing (in honor of Cyclocross Nationals in Bend), we’re deviating from the clean images of wedding photography (just for the moment) just to show you some fun.

Here’s a few from last night’s gathering!  If you couldn’t make it – join us next Friday to kick-off Nationals :)   Grrrrrrr…

A good crowd the whole night of friends and random art walkers…

The racer, Angela Mart, looking in the mirror – okay a photo of her :)

Truffles and wine – my favorite :)   Any food is really my favorite….

Good friends Chad and Sarah with their family swung by for a visit (that’s Ethan in the middle).

Gary Faulkerson Live Acoustic At Velvet Lounge In Bend, Oregon

November 5th, 2009 : Extras, Portraits

My friend Shelly gives me a call and tells me her co-worker is a singer/songwriter/acoustic guitar player who is beginning to play live show in Bend and is looking for portfolio images.  Wendy and I checked out the show and here are some images from that night.  Thanks Gary for the great music and here’s to following our passions!  You can find out more information about Gary by going to his website at:  http://www.garyfulkerson.com/

The Sweet Harlots And Laurel Brauns In Bend, Oregon To Promote A New Live Tour

September 15th, 2009 : Extras

Last week I worked with Laurel, Amy and Molly of the Sweet Harlots to create some new images to promote a new live tour beginning soon.  Always fun to work with, the Harlots and I found some new cool areas in Bend with lots of potential for spectacular images.  We milked the daylight until it was gone and then was able to use some killer tungsten lights as a cool filler to get some crazy shots of the blue sky without flash.

Webcyclery Thrilla Cyclocross Race – Bend, Oregon

September 10th, 2009 : Extras

Think dirt, sweat, blood – that’s the beauty of cyclocross racing.  Guys and gals participate (Byron included) in this grind of a bicycle race each year for a few weeks during the fall.  They’ve got more guts than I do (which is why I’m shooting and not racing!).  The course is near Cascade Lakes Brewery – where riders cross barriers, go down the rock quarry and runs up hills with bike in hand.  Enjoy the pics and thanks to Webcyclery for giving us some great exposure to the Bend biking community.
