Bridal Portraits with Melissa

January 29th, 2009 : .Weddings

I had the opportunity to shoot the cover for Bend’s local alternative paper, “The Source” last weekend.  Wendy and I had a ton of fun working with models Melissa and her husband Todd along with The Source’s art director Elise.  I can’t show you what the cover shot looks like yet (wait a week) but here are some images I took when we were taking a break.  Special thanks to local flower shop Singing Sparrow for the colorful bouquet.

Deschutes River Frost

January 24th, 2009 : Personal

We’ve had some unusal weather that’s provided a beautiful frost by the Deschutes River.  I wanted to shoot all week and finally took the dogs for a hike.  Below are a few of my favorites that play with the idea of shooting detail.  – Wendy

Inspiration At Imaging USA Photography Conference-Phoenix, Arizona

January 23rd, 2009 : Personal, Photographers

I was down in Phoenix recently for one of the largest photo conferences in the country.  Imaging USA is three days of seminars from technique and tech talk to business practices with a few parties thrown in and an expo with every photo company seemingly out there.  I had a great time meeting new people and bumping into friends from my home town like Kevin Kubota.  I found an immense amount of information beneficial for my business and I’m using that new inspiration now to direct me in constructing a new booth for the Bravo Wedding Expo coming up on Saturday the 31st of January 09 in Redmond, Oregon.  I’m excited to see it finished!  Come visit us at Booth #111 and say hello!

This is a photo taken from the photo convention center in downtown Phoenix!  This church seemed to be out of place but with the mountains in the background it was quite a sight.

I’m standing on the right with world famous wedding and fashion photographer Jerry Ghionis.  He has a photo educational site called the ICE Society and at the show he was also a speaker.  Charismatic and inspirational!

The Nikon booth of course!  They also had seminars with well known photographers giving great advice.

Phoenix Zoo And The Weather’s Nice Too

January 19th, 2009 : Personal

Last week I was in Phoenix for a three day photography conference and when it was over, I was able to spend some quality time with my parents who live in the area.  This new zoo in Surprise, Arizona was great to visit (especially when it’s 75 degrees out!) and seeing as how I love animals, it was a no-brainer to take my camera along.  I talked to one of the animal trainers along my walk through the park and when asked if he liked what he did for a living, he summed it up by saying that the money he makes is second to the joy he gets every day while working with all the animals.  Enjoy-

Laurel Brauns And Her Band the Sweet Harlots

January 6th, 2009 : Extras

Here are some images from a shoot I did last Saturday for a Bend, Oregon band called the Sweet Harlots.  We had a lot of fun conceptualizing on a look they could use for promotion and even though it was fairly cold out, the energy was flowing.  If your in Bend this January the 28th come check them out at McMenamins Old St. Francis School in the Father Luke’s room from 7 – 10 p.m.  Hey, it’s free!

Here’s what Chris Dahlen of Pitchforkmedia.com and Paste Magazine had to say about the Sweet Harlots most recent album, “Laurel Brauns can do the siren singer-songwriter thing, casting her sterling voice into songs about wide skies and maze-like hearts. She brings to bear all of her Celtic and indie influences on her haunting new album where cellos and dark finger-picked acoustic guitar all but surround you with the ghosts of the by-gone characters the songs speak of.”

You can also check out more band info, including samples of some songs at:  www.laurelbrauns.com
